Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs)

In any county central committee, only elected precinct committee officers and precinct committee officers appointed after the organizational meeting shall vote for county chair, vice chair, state committee representatives, and any representative the county central committee is authorized to send to other political party organizations and on the adoption or amendment of bylaws.

Precinct Committee Officers are elected to two-year terms in even-year Primary Elections.

Candidate Filing for Precinct Committee Officers

  • Last filing was May 6-10, 2024.

  • Next filing will be May 2026.

You must complete a Declaration of Candidacy during Candidate Filing Week (May 6-10) to become a candidate for Precinct Committee Officer (PCO). At the time of filing, you must be registered to vote in the precinct for which you are filing and may only file as a Democratic Party PCO or Republican Party PCO. Many precinct numbers have changed in 2022 - look up your voter registration information or update your information at www.votewa.gov.

There is no filing fee. Write-ins are not allowed for this office. PCO candidates are not eligible to submit candidate statements or photographs and do not appear in the Local Voters’ Pamphlet.

PCO races will be elected at the August 2024 Primary Election for the two-year term. If only one candidate files for either the Democratic or Republican position, that candidate is considered elected after the last day to withdraw. If two or more candidates file, the candidate receiving the highest votes in the Primary will be elected (WAC 434-230-100). PCOs do not advance to the General Election ballot. If no one files for office, the political party may fill the position by appointment.

The election of PCOs for the next term has been completed. Our current PCOs include some whose term will end November 30 and others who have been elected to the term beginning December 1 and appointed to serve in their precinct as appointed PCOs until that term begins.

The JCD Central Committee may allow other Democrats to take part in all other functions. Reference: WSDCC Bylaws – Article VIII

  • PCOs shall obtain a list of registered voters in their respective precincts through JCD records and try to identify and contact by whatever means practical (for example, visit, phone, mail, use electronic communication) those voters likely to support Democratic candidates, programs and propositions

  • PCOs shall use all available resources to keep themselves informed of current political issues in Jefferson County and at the state and national levels of government, including the current Democratic Party platforms of all levels of the party

  • PCOs shall participate actively in voter registration efforts and raise funds to support of the Democratic Party and its candidates

  • PCOs shall attend JCD Membership meetings.

Also, according to the JCD Bylaws, the two JCD District Representatives for each county commissioner district “shall recruit and shall assist in the activities of PCOs in their Commissioner Districts.” For assistance as a PCO, contact your district representative.
